You can advance the mechanical pencil lead by pressing the top of the pen when that component is selected. To replace a refill, unscrew the grip area and pull out the old refill. Insert the new refill into the empty slot, make sure its securely pushed into place, and screw the grip section back on. You can refill the mechanical pencil component in the same way, by adding leads to the open end of the components tube after you pull it out. To replace the eraser, pull the old one out and insert the new one, then twist the eraser holder to retract the eraser.
